The CDC defines "cleaning" as the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. Still, this process does not kill germs but only helps reduce their numbers and the risk of spreading infection. Disinfecting, however, refers to using certain products to kill pathogens on surfaces, thereby lowering the risk of spreading disease.
